PELITA DAILY — For the first time, Saudi Arabia as the host Asian Cup 2027, the Asian football tournament which is held every four years by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

“Saudi Arabia will host the 2027 Asian Cup. The most prestigious tournament in Asia will be held in Saudi Arabia for the first time,” the AFC wrote on its official Instagram account, Thursday (2/2/2023).

The AFC’s decision to appoint Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2027 Asian Cup after the election congress in Manama, Bahrain, Wednesday (1/2/2023).

Saudi Arabia was chosen as the host because it was the only candidate who put forward.

Since the Asian Cup rolled out for the first time in 1956 in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia has won three times (1984, 1988 and 1996) and has never felt like being the host. Reportedly, Saudi Arabia will submit eight stadiums as the venue for the match later.

“We are very excited to present the biggest tournament in the history of this competition,” said the kingdom’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal after the announcement was quoted from the Gulf Times, Thursday (2/2/2023). ●Red/Alia
